FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry. The method includes adding to a Bayer process stream an aluminosilicate scale inhibiting amount of a small molecule having at least one Si(OR)n group, where R is H, C1-C12alkyl, aryl, Na, K, Li or NH4, and n=1, 2 or 3; or at least one SiMJR group, where M, J and R groups are each independently selected from a list consisting of C1-C6alkyloxy, hydrogen, hydroxide or C1-C6alkyl group. The invention reduces formation of deposits of a desiliconisation product in Bayer process equipment, which increases the liquid volume rate and prolongs the duration of operation of Bayer process equipment, and also reduces the need for expensive and hazardous procedures of washing Bayer process equipment with acid.

EFFECT: invention significantly cuts overall operating costs of the Bayer process.
