FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the production of alumina. Method of reducing the amount of aluminosilicate-containing solid deposits in Bayer process includes bringing the surface of Bayer process equipment into contact with a composition which inhibits the formation of solid deposits, taken in an amount effective to obtain a treated surface which is more resistant to the formation of solid deposits upon subsequent contact with Bayer process stream compared to the untreated surface. Said composition contains an aqueous solution of one or more water-soluble salts with a total soluble salt content of at least about 0.004 w./w. % or more, or a solution having pH of about 11.0 or higher. Composition further comprises a silicon-containing compound, which is a polymer or polymer reaction product.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to improve the inhibition of the formation of solid deposits on the surface of the Bayer process equipment.
