FIELD: radio engineering, communication.
SUBSTANCE: method includes determining output parameter differences of the basic element and backup elements; comparing the output parameter differences with a threshold value and detecting sudden failures; specifying linguistic variables describing quantitative values of the output parameter differences and output decisions at the qualitative level; for each linguistic variable determining a basic term set with corresponding membership functions for each term; specifying for input linguistic variables at the scale of possible values of output parameter differences the terms "big minus", "average minus", "zero", "average plus", "big plus", which depend on the mean-square deviation of output parameter differences from zero, and for output linguistic variables the terms "element operating properly", "gradual failure of element", "sudden failure of element", specifying terms "low confidence", "sufficient confidence", "average confidence"; generating an expert set of fuzzy inference rules which associate an input situation with a certain output solution; successively performing fuzzification, aggregation, activation, accumulation and defuzzification, wherein if from the obtained series the maximum value corresponds to output linguistic variables "gradual failure of element" or "sudden failure of element", a decision is made on the failure of the basic element or backup element; said element is disconnected and, if properly operating elements are available, one of said elements is connected to the output of the backup system.
