FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to a method of producing methyl ether of 4-(4-aminophenyl)butyric acid from 3-(4-acetylaminobenzoyl)propionic acid. The disclosed method comprises the following steps: catalytic reduction of a starting compound with hydrogen under pressure on a Pd/C catalyst, etherification and deacetylation of the reduced acid, while performing all of said steps in methanol. Reduction is carried out in pure methanol at 65-70°C, and the etherification and deacetylation steps are carried out in a mixture of methanol and thionyl choride.

EFFECT: method enables to avoid the use of gaseous hydrogen chloride at the catalytic reduction step and enables to extract the product in solid form.
