FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: each infant's analyser: cutaneous, motion, visual and acoustic, are sequentially exposed to objects having various degree of effect, 2 objects for each degree to strengthen a response. If an infant responses to the objects of a low degree of effect, the diagnostic procedure for this analyser might be considered completed. If the infant shows no response to the objects of the higher degree of effect, he/she is exposed to the objects of a higher degree of effect is the first to start the exposure, which implies using the objects of the medium degree of effect, and then the high degree of effect. Each analyser is appraised by points: in accordance with the low to high degree of effect. The appraised result is presented as a total value for all the analysers, whereas a receptor capacity is calculated by formula. The derived value is used to state very low mental activity, low mental activity or satisfactory one.

EFFECT: method enables stating the degree of mental activity in the infants in the first months of life with very low or extremely low birth weight by appraising the degree of exposure of every target analyser to objects.
