FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing polyester polyols. Described method of producing polyester polyols via catalytic ring-opening polymerisation of propylene oxide with at least one bifunctional compound which is reactive with respect to alkylene oxides, wherein the catalyst used is N-heterocyclic carbene of formula wherein R1 and R2 are selected from a group which includes methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, phenyl and mesityl; and R3 and R4 are respectively selected from a group which includes H, methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, phenyl and mesityl; wherein R1 and R3, R3 and R4, as well as R4 and R2 can form rings with each other.
EFFECT: obtaining polyester polyols having a terminal ethylene oxide block, with significant minimisation of secondary reactions.
