SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of generating control points during simulation. The method includes selecting a time step for storing a correlation control point, wherein the correlation control point contains data used to correlate a value propagating in a forward direction generated by computer simulation, wherein computer simulation cannot be restarted from values stored at the correlation control point; wherein selection of the time step for storing a correlation control point includes determining the balance between storing a complete state control point from which computer simulation can be restarted, and storing the correlation control point and reducing requirements for the amount of computer memory; allocating memory space for the correlation control point. A value propagating in the reverse direction from measurement data is correlated with a value propagating in the forward direction from computer simulation, wherein the forward value propagating in the forward direction is stored at the correlation control point.

EFFECT: reduced computational costs of computer simulation.
