FIELD: packaging industry.

SUBSTANCE: method for optimisation of production of packaging products in a computer system comprises one or more processors and a system memory. The method comprises: a step of receiving information on the manufacture of packaging for the production of the packaging product. The information on the manufacture of packaging sets the size of the packaging product; a step of affording access to a plurality of different package designs. Each of the said plurality of different package designs indicates values for the combination of characteristics of packaging production. These values for the combination of characteristics of the package production shall be used in the production of the packaging product according to the package design; a step of selecting a package design from the said plurality of different package designs for the manufacture of the packaging product. Selection is based on the suitability of the selected design of package for the production of the packaging product according to the information about production of the package. The step of selection of a package design from the said plurality of different package designs for production of packaging product comprises: a step of calculating assessment for some of the said plurality of different package designs; and a step of comparing the calculated assessments to each other; and a step of sending instructions for the manufacture of the packaging product to the package production machine.

EFFECT: instructions instruct the package production machine to use the available starting materials sufficient for a given size and in accordance with the selected package design.
