FIELD: physics, computer engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to docking stations for user interface devices. A dock station is configured to receive a touch-sensitive portable control device for providing communication with a programmable multimedia controller and to receive signals from a portable control device and bidirectional transmission of signals to the programmable multimedia controller. The dock station is equipped with a dedicated backup wire communication channel which connects the dock station with the programmable multimedia controller to provide effective communication in the absence of wireless communication or in the presence of unreliable wireless communication means. The portable control device has wireless and wire compatibility and includes a touch-sensitive user interface which enables a user to select elements and enter settings relating to components interfaced with the programmable multimedia controller. The dock station converts user-input signals into IP messages which are suitable for transmission via the dedicated backup wire communication channel.
EFFECT: high reliability of transmitting information owing to the use of a backup wire channel between the dock station and the controller.
