FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to two versions of a method of converting alkanols into aromatic hydrocarbons. One version includes: partial dehydrogenation of C1-C6 alkanol initial material in presence of catalyst for dehydrogenation at dehydration temperature and dehydrogenation pressure to obtain hydrogen and a mixture of oxygenate components containing (a) unreacted C1-C6 alkanol and (b) carboxylic acid, aldehyde, ester or any combination thereof; wherein at least a portion of oxygenate components in said mixture has ratio of hydrogen to useful carbon less than 1.6 and degree of partial dehydrogenation enables to obtain a mixture of oxygenate components having total ratio of hydrogen to useful carbon from 1.2-1.8; and exposing oxygenate catalyst component at oxygenate conversion temperature and oxygenate conversion pressure to obtain aromatic hydrocarbons. Invention also relates to a method of converting ethanol into aromatic hydrocarbons.

EFFECT: present invention increases output of aromatic products.
