FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for preparing a salt of 9-mesityl-10-methylacridinium of general formula (I), where X = PF6 (compound Ia); ClO4 (compound Ib); BF4 (compound Ic), by reacting mesityl-magnesium bromide with a derivative of acridine among dehydrated organic solvent, characterised in that derivative of acridine is corresponding salt of N-methylacridinium, organic solvent used is diethyl ether, and subsequent oxidation is performed electrochemically at a controlled potential of 0.61 V relative to Ag/AgNO3 or in galvanostatic mode.
EFFECT: method of producing compound (I), characterised by high output of end product and shorter synthesis time.
