SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for improvement of a digital colour or halftone image. Improvement of visual informativity of digital images is ensured by analysing image structures using estimation of the brightness contrast, calculated at each decomposition level as a quotient of division of absolute value of the sum of coefficient detailing L component by the sum of L component approximation; on the basis of the result of image structure after obtaining of matrices of reconstructed detailing components of L, a, b components, there is performed smoothing of the image noise microstructure by calculating at each decomposition level of a normalised integral histogram of absolute values of the elements of the matrix of L component reconstructed constituent with obtainment of the function of coefficients of the noise microstructure smoothing, element-wise conversion of matrices of reconstructed detailing constituents L, a, b of image function of the smoothing coefficients noise microstructure.

EFFECT: improvement of visual informativity of digital images.
