FIELD: petrochemical industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to petrochemical synthesis, particularly, to heterogeneous catalysts for converting alkyl formates (decarbonylation reaction) to corresponding alcohols. Invention relates to a catalyst for splitting alkyl formates, containing: zinc oxide 87.90-99.10 wt%, aluminium oxide 0.24-1.80 wt%, calcium oxide 0.35-5.60 wt%, magnesium oxide 0.10-3.30 wt%, impurities of sulphur - not more than 0.15 wt%, other components - not more than 1.25 wt%; graphite - balance, and also a method of splitting alkyl formates in atmosphere of hydrogen in presence of catalyst according to invention.

EFFECT: technical result consists in providing more complete conversion of alkyl formates to corresponding alcohols, increase in end product yield, reduced output of toxic products, such as methanol, increased amount of processed raw material per unit time, as well as low process temperature.
