FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of chemical stabilisation of an uranium carbide compound and a device for realisation of this method. Method involves the following stages: a stage of temperature increase inside the said chamber to the temperature of oxidation of the said compound based on uranium carbide in the range approximately from 380 to 550 °C, when the inert gas is fed into the said chamber; a stage of isothermal oxidative treatment at the specified temperature of oxidation, when the said chamber is under partial pressure O2; a stage of a check of completion of stabilisation of the said compound, which includes monitoring of the amount of absorbed molecular oxygen and/or carbon dioxide or dedicated dioxide or carbon monoxide until reaching the specified set value of the said amount of molecular oxygen, minimum threshold value of the specified amount of carbon dioxide or minimum threshold values of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.

EFFECT: possibility of a safe, reliable controlled and accelerated solution of a complex problem of stabilisation of uranium carbide compounds with formula UCx + yC, where number x can be greater than or equal to 1, and the actual number y is greater than zero.
