FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of determining component in the separation unit located downstream of the reactor for production of acetic acid comprising (i) feeding the feed stream into rectification column for distillation of low-boiling fractions, where the feed stream contains the following components: methyl iodide, water, methanol, methyl acetate, acetaldehyde, acetic acid, alkanes and propionic acid, (ii) separation by rectification column for distillation of low-boiling fractions of crude stream to the first cut of output stream and the output stream of the still residue, where the first cut of output stream contains the following components: from 30 wt% up to 70 wt% methyl iodide, from 10 wt% up to 40 wt% water, from 5 wt% up to 15 wt% methyl acetate, less than 2 wt%. acetaldehyde, from 5 wt% up to 35 wt% acetic acid, from 1 wt% up to 10 wt% alkanes and where the output stream of the still residue contains the following components: from 80 wt% up to 100 wt% acetic acid, from 3 wt% up to 20 wt% water, (iii) separation of the first race in decanter on low-boiling water phase and high-boiling organic phase, and (iv) determination of characteristics of one or more of said components in the rectification column for distillation of low-boiling fractions or in the decanter; it by means of analysis by Raman spectroscopy. Invention also relates to a method of producing acetic acid.

EFFECT: system, used in the method of producing acetic acid, enables to accurately determine content of components without cumbersome calibration standards.
