FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method for production of acetic acid in system for production of acetic acid, involving following steps: (i) production of acetic acid in a reactor, wherein production step involves reaction of carbon monoxide and methanol in presence of catalyst and hydrogen iodide; (ii) forming a complex by continuous introduction of a complexing agent in system after reactor, wherein complexing agent contains phosphine oxide, wherein complexing agent is added in amount from about 0.1 to 10 mol per mol hydrogen iodide, wherein phosphine oxide and hydrogen iodide react to form said complex; and (iii) extraction of said complex.
EFFECT: method enables to control level of hydrogen iodide in process of producing acetic acid.
