FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to self-extinguishing foamed styrene polymers. Described is self-extinguishing foamed polystyrene with low content of chlorine- or organobromine fire retardant, obtained from pre-foamed or foaming styrene polymer including, besides organohalogen fire retardant, a mixture of magnesium hydroxide and calcium carbonate 1:1-1:3 in following ratio of components, wt%: styrene polymer - 100; organohalogen fire retardant - 1.0-2.0, mixture of magnesium hydroxide and calcium carbonate - 3.0-6.0.
EFFECT: adding to polystyrene besides organochlorine combustion inhibitors a mixture of magnesium hydroxide and calcium carbonate reduces amount of acid chloride or acid bromide of carbonic acid formed during oxidative pyrolysis by twofold.
