FIELD: polymer materials. SUBSTANCE: when producing foaming self-extinguishing polystyrene useful in manufacture of heat-insulation boards and flexible package, reduced self-extinguishing time, increased melt index and relative viscosity of polystyrene are achieved by performing block polymerization followed by suspension polymerization on suspension stabilizer in presence of initiator and mixture of fire-retardants. The latter contains terabromo-p-xylene and trinonylphenyl phosphite in weight ratio from 4:1 to 1:1, respectively. EFFECT: improved characteristics of product. 1 tbl
