FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field devices. Wireless field device includes input/output terminals (40), discrete input/output channel (24), wireless communication circuitry (48) and controller (44). Discrete input/output channel is configured to receive a discrete input from process interface element through terminals (40) and to provide a discrete output to process interface element (16) through terminal (40). Controller (44) communicates information through wireless communication circuitry (48); provides a discrete output to process interface element (16); configures input/output channel as input channel; configures discrete input/output channel as discrete output channel. Switch is configured to selectively electrically couple discrete input/output terminals together.
EFFECT: technical result is protection from inflow of energy in field device, as well as protection against damage of field device circuitry.
