MEMBRANE DISTILLATION MODULE AND METHOD OF MINERALIZED WATER DESALINATION Russian patent published in 2017 - IPC B01D61/36

Abstract RU 2612701 C1

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: membrane distillation module with an air gap for the mineralized water desalination with a total mineral salts content of 5 to 60 g/l for equipping the membrane distillation apparatus comprises the separation membrane, the cooled partition for condensing the vapour passed through the membrane, the pressure chamber for supplying the initial desalinated flow, formed by the pressure side of the membrane and the housing wall, the air gap formed by the back side of the membrane and the partition surface, the chamber formed by the partition and the housing wall, the fresh water outlet pipe and the circulation loop, all arranged in the module housing. The chamber formed by a cooled partition and the housing wall is the condensation chamber for the vapour passed through the separating membrane and the porous cooled vapour barrier. The fresh water outlet pipe is built into the circulation circuit pipeline before the condensation chamber. The module is configured to vertical and horizontal orientations. The cooled porous partition is preferably made of porous stainless steel, or porous titanium, or porous polymeric material plates, or porous ceramic plates. Preferably, the distance between the reverse side of the separation membrane and the cooled porous partition is less than 1.0 mm. The method of the mineralized water desalination with using this module involves feeding the mineralized water, carrying out the membrane distillation, the output of the cooled condensate flow portion as fresh water, and the circulation of the other part of said flow through the condensing chamber.

EFFECT: reducing the heat and mass transfer resistance in the air gap, increasing the module stability and ensuring its effective operation at the vertical or horizontal orientation.
