SUBSTANCE: invention refers to the field of coal chemistry, to technology for hydrocarbon extraction from coal and may be used in the manufacture of electrodes for electrolysis aluminum production. A method for obtaining coal pitch - bonding agent for the production of anode mass of carbon electrodes includes thermal dissolution of finely ground coal in organic solvent under increased pressure, subsequent filtration and distillation of the pitch-containing product; the method is characterized by the fact that ashfree pitch-containing product is obtained in filtration process, distillation is carried out in the mode of fraction distillation or rectification of ashfree pitch-containing product, coal pitch - bonding agent is isolated in the form of a high-boiling fraction initial boiling temperature of which being 350-380°C.

EFFECT: use in the anode mass composition, eg, in self-burning anodes in aluminum electrolyzers.
