FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: steel features the following chemical composition, in wt %: 0.10-0,70 C; 0.25-4.00 Si; 0.05-3.00 Al; 1.00-3.00 Mn; 0.10-2.00 Cr; 0.001-0.50 Nb; 0.001-0.025 N; not more than 0.15 P; not more than 0.05 S; the rest is iron with impurities arising from melting during the optional addition of one or several elements: Mo, Ni, Co, W, Ti or V, and Zr and the rare earths. To prevent primary precipitates of AlN, following condition is complied: Al×N<5×10-3 (wt %), and the following condition is complied to avoid cementite formation: Si+Al>4×C (wt %). The average size of prior austenite grain is not more than 100 microns, and the average distance between austenite plates is less than 750 nm.

EFFECT: steel has the desired toughness and high wear resistance.
