FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to tool steel for tool holders. Steel consists of, wt %: C 0.07–0.13; Si 0.10–0.45; Mn 2.1–2.9; Cr 2.6–3.6; Ni 0.5–2.0; Mo 0.1–0.7; Al 0.001–0.06; S ≤ 0.003; optionally Cu ≤ 1; N 0.006–0.06; V 0.01–0.2; Co ≤ 8; W ≤ 1; Nb ≤ 0.05; Ti ≤ 0.05; Zr ≤ 0.05; Ta ≤ 0.05; B ≤ 0.01; Ca ≤ 0.01; Mg ≤ 0.01; P3M ≤ 0.2 and H ≤ 0.0005; balance is Fe and impurities. Steel has a bainite microstructure containing up to 20 vol % residual austenite and up to 20 vol % martensite.
EFFECT: steel has high homogeneous properties, including in case of large cross-sections.
