FIELD: lighting.
SUBSTANCE: lighting unit includes LED (LED) modules and a lighting exciter connected to the LED modules. Each LED module includes an LED and an identification current source supplying the identification current to the output node of the identification current. All the identification current output nodes are connected to each other to supply a total identification current having a value that varies according to the number of LED modules that are connected to the lighting exciter. The lighting exciter includes a controllable current source for supplying the exciting current of the LEDs to the LED modules and a controller that responds to the total identification current to control the controllable current source to supply the exciting current of the LED with a value that varies according to the number of LED modules, which are connected to the lighting exciter.
EFFECT: ability to automatically control the value of the exciting current of the LEDs, that it supplies, in accordance with the requirements of the LEDs, that it excites.
