FIELD: lighting.
SUBSTANCE: lighting device (100) includes a module (120, 300) of light emitting diodes (LED) and a lighting driver (110, 200) connected to the LED modules. Each LED module includes a LED (323) and at identification current source (324) that supplies the identification current to the identification current output unit (180, 380). All identifying current output units are connected together for common identification current supply with a magnitude which varies in response to the number of LED modules that are connected to the lighting driver. Lightning driver includes a controllable current source (220 or 250) for LED energizing current supplying to the LED modules and a controller (230) which responds to a general identification current for controlling a controlled current source to supply a LED energizing current with a magnitude that varies in response to the number of LED modules that are connected to the lighting driver.
EFFECT: reduced energy losses.
