FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: heating the wheels to austenitization temperature followed by intermittent three-sided cooling of the rim rotating in the wheel vertical plane with water from spray devices, two-sided forced cooling of the disc and areas where disc transforms into the rim, and the hub with compressed air from at least two injectors on each side connected to a common air line, at that adjacent injectors from each cooling side are positioned relative to each other at a distance, at which the blowing spots from the injectors are overlaped by value of their radii, air pressure in air line is maintained within 4-5 atmospheres, the disc cooling time and areas where the disc transforms into the rim and hub is 0.8-1.5 of specified time for rim cooling.
EFFECT: increased structural and fatigue strength of whole-rolled railway wheels by simultaneously increasing the strength, plasticity and viscosity characteristics of their discs metal.
