FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves single or double-sided cyclic cooling of disk, rim and nave junction portions while rotating wheel in vertical position within quenching machine, with prequenching temperature of wheel rim being within the range of 940-780 C and of disk within the range of 860-720 C. Disk, rim and nave junction portions of wheel are cooled with compressed air under pressure of 1-3 kgf/sq cm and cooling time is 2.0-0.7 of rim cooling time. EFFECT: increased impact toughness and endurance of wheel disk metal. 3 cl, 1 dwg, 4 tbl
