FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: two-stage modification of the initial sorbent selected from cotton or wood pulp, short linen fibres, wood chips or Jerusalem artichoke stems is carried out. In the first stage, the initial sorbent is treated with an oxidant solution selected from sodium metaperiodate, iodic acid, or sodium hypochlorite, under the action of microwave irradiation. In the second stage, treatment with a solution of 3-10% sulfanilic acid is carried out. After each treatment step, the product is washed with water.

EFFECT: simplification of the method of producing a sorbent with increasing the extraction degree of heavy metal ions by a modified sorbent.
