SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of wireless communications, such as the cellular systems of the "Long Term Evolution" (LTE) standard, and is designed to ensure compatibility of the adaptive transmission interval (TTI) in LTE systems and fifth generation (5G) systems. In accordance with an embodiment, the method for the adaptive TTI compatibility mechanism includes placing the TTI LTE network controller in the first frequency band. The first frequency band is smaller than the available system bandwidth and is centerd around the carrier frequency in the center of the available system bandwidth. The method further includes broadcasting the first frequency band in LTE information messages, arranging adaptive TTIs in the available system bandwidth outside the first frequency band, and broadcasting bandwidth allocation information for the adaptive TTIs to terminals capable of supporting the adaptive TTI.
