SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the petroleum industry. Way to develop a reservoir of high-viscosity oil or bitumen includes geophysical exploration of the deposit, construction of additional trunk above the water-oil contact of horizontal wells, sequential injection of coolant and selection of products from horizontal wells. With the help of geophysical studies and according to core sampling data, the average oil-saturated thickness of the deposit is determined. Areas with an initial oil-saturated thickness of more than 10 % higher than the average over the deposit are distinguished. Select from these areas those that are at a distance from the horizontal trunk not more than 90 % of the distance between adjacent horizontal wells. Additional trunks are drilled with the opening of selected areas, and the zenith angle of additional trunks is selected depending on the density of the injected coolant.

EFFECT: involving in the development of the zone of increased productivity, increasing the coverage of the deposit by drilling additional trunks taking into account the density of the injected coolant, increasing oil recovery factor.
