SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fluids for treating subterranean formations in the production of oil and gas. Aqueous formation treatment fluid comprising a mixture or dispersion in water, comprising at least one viscosifying polymer, which is a water-soluble or water-swelling polymer selected from a group consisting of cross-linked polysaccharides crosslinked with at least one crosslinking agent selected from a group consisting of borate, zirconium, aluminium, titanium and chromium organometallic crosslinking agents, or selected from a group consisting of guar gum, hydroxypropylguar, carboxymethylguar, carboxymethylhydroxypropylguar, combinations thereof, or from a group consisting of non-derivatised guar, starches, cellulose, derivatised guars, polyacrylamides, polyacrylates, functionalised polyacrylamide polymers, copolymers of acrylamide methyl propane sulphonic acid, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidones, copolymers of maleic anhydride and methylvinyl ether, polyethylene oxides, combinations thereof, at least one organic thinning peroxide and at least one promoter from a group consisting of thiosulphate salts, sulphite salts, bisulphite salts, erythorbate salts, isoascorbate salts and combinations thereof, wherein the aqueous formation treatment fluid essentially does not contain an amine if the promoter is a thiosulphate salt. Method of treating a subterranean formation, comprising injecting an aqueous formation treatment fluid into at least a portion of a subterranean formation, wherein the formation treatment fluid is said fluid. Invention is developed in dependent items of the formula.
