FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the production of magnesium oxide from magnesium-containing mineral raw materials. Method for producing magnesium oxide from the serpentinite ore waste includes the preparation of serpentinite ore waste, wet magnetic separation to separate the magnesium-containing suspension from magnetite, leaching with mineral acid, carbonization and annealing. Preparation of wastes of serpentinite ore is carried out by thermal activation in the furnace at a temperature of 500–600 °C and grinding the thermally activated serpentinite to a particle size of less than 0.1 mm. Leaching is carried out using flue gas, which, when an activated serpentinite passes through an aqueous suspension, forms carbonic acid HCO3 with pH index of 3.5–4.5.
EFFECT: increasing the speed of the process and the degree of recovery due to the greater availability of the inclusions of the dissolved mineral blocked by barren rock; invention provides an environmentally safe production of magnesium oxide from the dumps in a more efficient manner.
