SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing 4-(1-benzotriazolyl)-5-phenylsulfanylphthalonitrile from 4-bromo-5-nitrophthalonitrile, which comprises the first step of reacting 4-bromo-5-nitrophthalodinitrile with thiophenol in DMF medium in the presence of an aqueous solution of potassium carbonate for 25–30 minutes at a temperature of 24–26 °C, then the resultant product is isolated by pouring into water, and the precipitate is collected on a filter and washed with 2-propanol until colorless filtrates are obtained and the thiophenol odor disappears, then with water until the significant odor of 2-propanol disappears, and then dried in a drying oven at 80–90 °C, and 4-phenylsulfanyl-5-nitrophthalodinitrile synthesized in the first step is dissolved in DMF and reacted with 1-H-1,2,3-benzotriazole in the presence of an aqueous solution of potassium carbonate and 0.8–1 ml of triethylamine for 55–65 minutes at 45–50 °C, after which the resultant 4-(1-benzotriazolyl)-5-phenylsulfanylphthalonitrile is isolated by pouring into water, and the precipitate is collected on a filter, washed with 2-propanol, then with water until significant odor of 2-propanol disappears, then is dried in a drying oven at 70–80 °C.

EFFECT: developed is a novel method for producing 4-(1-benzotriazolyl)-5-phenylsulfanylphthalonitrile with high yield, in which the number of steps is reduced from 3 to 2, the synthesis duration is decreased.
