METHOD FOR DETERMINING MAXIMUM HORIZONTAL STRESS OF OIL AND GAS FORMATION Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC E21B43/26 G01V1/30

Abstract RU 2660702 C1

FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to oil and gas industry and can be used to determine the magnitude of the maximum horizontal stress in productive oil and gas formations for the selection of the optimal drilling and operating technology. Method includes performing a high-speed, low-volume hydraulic fracturing of the formation using two adjacent vertical wells, in one of which directional perforation and subsequent high-speed low-volume hydraulic fracturing of the formation are carried out in the direction of the minimum horizontal stress with the determination of the fracturing pressure. In another well, directional perforation and subsequent high-speed, low-volume hydraulic fracturing of the formation are performed in the direction of the maximum horizontal stress, with the determination of the fracturing pressure and the loose fracture closing pressure, which is equal to the minimum horizontal stress, after which the values of the maximum horizontal stress are calculated from these parameters.

EFFECT: method allows the use of standard equipment for a hydraulic fracturing operation, does not require additional studies to determine the parameters of hydraulic fracturing, calculations use the parameters which are measured during the relevant field tests, while the depth limitation of the well is greatly reduced, which enhances the functionality of the method.
