SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of heat engineering and can be applied to cryogenic and medium temperature thermal pipes and can be used in the development of a variety of cooling systems, including in the development of cooling systems for space vehicles operating under conditions of reduced gravity and weightlessness. Peculiarity of the proposed method of operation of the thermal pipe is manifested in the fact that the return of the condensate to the evaporation zone is carried out by dropping the condensate in the condensate pipe 4 equipped with a sawtooth-shaped notch facing the inclined part of the notch toward the evaporator, when the thermally insulated condensate line 4 is heated up to a temperature exceeding the Leidenfrost temperature by 50–200 °.
EFFECT: thermal pipe and the operational method are proposed.
