FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for extracting rare earth elements from fertilizer manufacturing waste products – phosphogypsum. Method includes leaching and sorption of rare earth elements from the solution using sorbent followed by desorption of rare earth elements with a solution of ammonium sulfate. Next, the rare earth concentrate is precipitated and separated. Herewith the leaching and sorption processes are carried out simultaneously by feeding a leach solution and a sorbent in countercurrent at a volume solid-to-liquid ratio S:L=1:(5.0÷10.0). Concentration of sulfuric acid in the leach solution fed to the leaching and sorption is selected in the range 2.0–10.0 mass.%, and as a sorbent, the sorbent KU-2-8 is preferably used, while after desorption of the rare-earth elements, regeneration of the sorbent is carried out, which is fed to sorption.

EFFECT: technical result of invention consists in reducing the costs of method implementing and reducing negative environmental impact in the process of practical method implementation due to the reduction in the number of operations and optimization of their parameters.
