SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the use of a compound selected from the group consisting of 3-[2-(4-{2-ethyl-4,6-dimethyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridin-1-yl}phenyl)ethyl]-1-[(4-methylbenzene)sulfonyl] urea and 4-[(1S)-1-({[5-chloro-2-(3-fluorophenoxy)pyridin-3-yl]carbonyl}amino)ethyl]benzoic acid, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in the manufacture of a medicament for treating cartilage diseases in an animal subject, including a mammalian subject. Cartilage disease is osteoarthritis associated with destruction, damage or injury of articular cartilage. Pharmaceutical composition and a method for treating cartilage disease are also provided.
