FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems for the production of flammable fuel (charcoal) from biomass. Batch-process supertorrefaction system 10 includes at least one supertorrefying unit 14, liquid tank 16 containing a salt melt, and wash tank 20 including a plurality of containers 70, 72, 74 containing water having different temperatures and different percentages of salt content. Liquid tank 16 and wash tank 20 successively supply salt melt and water to the receiving space of at least one supertorrefying unit 14 for supertorrefying the biomass into charcoal, as well as for washing and cooling the charcoal, respectively. Plurality of containers 70, 72, 74 of wash tank 20 successively feed water having different temperatures and different percentages of salt content to the same receiving space for gradually washing and cooling the charcoal. Biomass is retained by at least one supertorrefying unit 14 during supertorrefaction of the biomass. Charcoal does not move during the cooling. System includes discrete units that are closely arranged and can be easily connected and disconnected to form a compact supertorrefaction system. System is mobile, can easily be transported, for example, by trucks, to remote sites adjacent to biomass sources, thereby reducing the costs associated with transporting the biomass.
EFFECT: system also provides an energy-efficient process with an increased throughput, thereby reducing the manufacturing costs and making the resulting charcoal economically feasible, and in addition, the system can recover valuable liquid and gaseous by-products formed during the supertorrefaction process for other uses.
