SUBSTANCE: modified kraft pulp with unique properties is presented. In the method, the modified fiber may be a modified bleached kraft fiber that is almost indistinguishable from its conventional counterpart, except that it has a low degree of polymerization (DP). In addition, the methods for manufacturing such modified fiber and products made from it are provided. Said method can be a one step acidic, iron catalyzed hydrogen peroxide treatment process, which can be incorporated in a single stage of a multi-stage bleaching process.
EFFECT: products can be chemical raw materials of cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose raw materials, fluff pulp and products made from them.
