FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a scheme for protecting accumulators from an external short circuit. Electrical installation contains a breaker and a DC voltage source. Voltage source contains batteries connected in parallel, and the voltage source is connected in series with the breaker. Sum of the short-circuit currents of these batteries is higher than the breaking capacity of the breaker. Each battery contains a first arm, a second arm, an ammeter and a control circuit. Each first arm contains electrochemical accumulators and a switch connected in series. Each second arm is connected in parallel with the first arm and contains a reverse-circuit diode. Control circuits are configured to detect a short circuit and simultaneously keep most of said switches open. In this case, the control circuits close one of these switches in order to apply current passing through the breaker above the tripping current and below the breaking capacity.
EFFECT: technical result consists in providing protection of the power supply from an external short circuit by means of a breaker with a smaller breaking capacity.
