FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to coin processing device (10) and a corresponding method for classifying coins using coin processing device (10). To this end, processing device (10) comprises at least one computer-controlled device (9) having storage unit (36) and at least one coin channel (34) for guiding coins (35). At least one coin channel (34) comprises at least one sensor (37) suitable for measuring coin transit time (35) and associated with computer-controlled device (9). In addition, acceleration device (43) for coins (35) is provided, wherein said acceleration device (43) is similarly associated with computer-controlled device (9) and is arranged to accelerate coin (35) in a reproducible manner. Target speed value for particular coin (35) is stored in storage unit (36), wherein said target speed value is compared to an actual coin speed value. Actual speed value of the coin is calculated on the basis of a transport time recorded by sensor (37). Coin class (35) is then set by computer-controlled device (9) by comparing the target speed value and the actual speed value.

EFFECT: coin processing device is proposed.
