FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the production of nanofibrillar cellulose gels, characterized by the steps of: (a) preparing cellulosic fibers; (b) preparing at least one filler and/or pigment; (c) combining the cellulosic fibers and at least one filler and/or pigment; (d) fibrilling the cellulosic fibers in an aqueous medium in the presence of at least one filler and/or pigment prior to forming a nanofibrillar cellulose gel, where gel formation is confirmed by monitoring the viscosity as a function of shear rate, so that a decrease in viscosity with a stepwise increase in shear rate is stronger than corresponding increase in viscosity with subsequent stepwise decrease in the shear rate within at least a portion of the shear rate interval, as the shear tends to zero, as well as to the nanofibrillar cellulose gel produced by the process and its use.
EFFECT: method for the production of nanofibrillar cellulose gels is proposed.
