FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy, in particular to the production of a consumable electrode for electroslag remelting with the formation of a multilayer casting. Metal plates and portions of molten metal heated to a temperature of 600–700 °C are placed in the mold in alternating layers of different chemical composition. Mass of metal plates does not exceed 20 % of the mass of the formed electrode.
EFFECT: invention allows to obtain a consumable electrode with a minimum transition zone in height between the layers of different chemical composition in a cast billet by electroslag remelting while maintaining high mechanical strength.
