SUBSTANCE: invention relates to liquid crystal displays, in particular, to a backlight unit, a method for controlling a backlight unit, and a liquid crystal display device comprising a backlight unit. Backlight unit comprises a backlight unit, a voltage generation unit, a backlight control unit and a backlight control chip. Backlight module contains a light source for emitting light. Voltage generation unit provides the control voltage for the backlight unit. Backlight control unit receives a frame rate signal and generates a cycle control signal having the same cycle time as the frame rate signal. Backlight control chip generates a width-modulated (PWM) signal in accordance with the cycle control signal and the specified duty cycle D. PWM signal has the same cycle time as the cycle control time, and the fill factor of the PWM signal is D in each cycle. PWM signal is configured to control the voltage generation unit to provide the backlight unit with control voltage or its cutoff.

EFFECT: technical result is to improve the display quality of the liquid crystal display.
