SUBSTANCE: display (100) has a light-transmitting display panel (102) and a backlight (104) for illuminating the back (108) of the display panel. The backlight has light sources (110) placed in light source positions for illuminating the back of the display panel. The system has a drive value generator (106) for providing drive values (112) of light sources for control such that the backlight profile gradually falls around the high brightness part of the display at a rate which does not depend on the position of the high brightness part relative positions of light sources, thus the high brightness part of the display has higher brightness than the region around the high brightness part of the display.
EFFECT: preventing perception of the backlight structure and halo by the viewer.
