FIELD: computer equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the computer equipment. Virtualization method of data storage systems (DSS) for data processing center and cloud computing where the primary and backup cluster of controllers are launched with the application supporting the DSS virtualization and indicating the IP and/or MAC address of the DSS management node; DSS management node is connected to the software-configured network (SCN); controller application is checked for correct identification of the SCN network switch to which the DSS management node is connected; when a new DSS node is connected, the controller application for supporting DSS virtualization using the Dijkstra algorithm calculates the shortest path in the graph describing the network topology, creates and sets rules on switches; if the backup controller detects the failure of the main controller, the application on the backup controller restores its last state and continues to maintain control of the virtual DSS management network and virtual data network between DSS nodes; if the controller detects a switch or link failures, the application automatically rebuilds routes between storage nodes and reconfigures the network by updating the rules on the switches.

EFFECT: technical result is to increase the reliability of the DSS.
