FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a method of reducing particulate emission from an internal combustion engine comprising steps of: providing a base fuel having an aromatic content of at least about 10 % by volume; adding into the base fuel a certain amount of methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl to obtain a fuel formulation, where the fuel formulation containing methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl and base fuel is characterised by aromatic content which is lower than aromatic content in the base fuel in the absence of methyl cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl; where (1) particulate emissions from combustion of the fuel formulation as measured by particle number (PN) (for both solids and volatile substances) are reduced in comparison with particulate emissions from the combustion of the base fuel, and where (2) the octane number of the fuel formulation is essentially the same or greater than the octane number of the base fuel in the absence of methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl.
EFFECT: reduction of particulate emissions during fuel combustion in internal combustion engines.
