FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding a multi-channel audio signal. Downmix of multi-channel signal (4) is performed to obtain downmix signal (14). Downmix signal (14) is encoded. Wherein downmix signal (14) has a lower range and an upper range. Wherein coding downmix signal (14) includes processing bandwidth expansion for parametric coding of the upper range. Spectral representation of multi-channel signal (4) is generated. Spectral representation comprising the lower range and the upper range of the multi-channel signal is processed to generated multi-channel information (20). Wherein coding downmix signal (14) further comprises decoding encoded downmix signal (26) to obtain downmix encoded and decoded signal (54).
EFFECT: increased efficiency of audio coding.
