SUBSTANCE: invention relates to runways. Airport runway arrangement for commercial aircraft comprises first runway section (202-1), second runway section (202-2) extending substantially in prolongation of the first runway section, and intermediate section (210-3) between the first and second runway sections. Second runway section (202-2) is characterised by the same direction of operation as that of first runway section (202-1). Intermediate runway section (210-3) is designated as an intermediate safety strip, wherein intermediate section (210-3) is not used by the aircraft during normal operation of the airport runway arrangement, thereby simultaneously allowing landing aircraft to land on one of first and second (202-1, 202-2) runway sections, and for taking off aircraft to take off from the other of said first or second runway sections (202-1, 202-2) without using intermediate section (210-3).
EFFECT: invention improves the safety of aircraft take-off and landing.
