SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a transmitting / receiving device which can improve electronic service guide (ESG) accessibility for visually impaired people. Disclosed is a transmitting device comprising a metadata generation unit for generating metadata regarding the pronunciation of text converted into speech for generating metadata regarding the pronunciation of text converted from text from display information, so that the pronunciation of text converted into speech is carried out as intended by the manufacturer; an electronic service guide generating unit for generating an electronic service guide containing said metadata regarding the pronunciation of text converted into speech; and a transmitting unit for transmitting the electronic service guide to a receiving device configured to display information to a user. Disclosed technology can be applied, for example, to a transmitter capable of transmitting a digital television broadcast signal.
EFFECT: accurate and reliable pronunciation of words and texts as intended by software manufacturer, so that visually impaired people can obtain information similar to information physically perceived by healthy people.
